Immersive Experiences

    The Jam Session

    The Jam Session is a one-day, public event where we gather to share-out and celebrate the brilliance we’ve found through studying our girlhood through storyteling. Just like expert musicians, our Jam Sessions bring together the best parts of who we are! Jam Sessions are open to all women and girls, are held inside beautiful venues and feels a little bit like heaven. Tell your mama, bring a friend!

    The Study

    The Study is a 4-week session over four Saturdays where we delve deeply into the work, life, and artistic contributions of a specific musician or artist. We study their catalogue and the impact it has had on our Black girlhood and womanhood. The study is an intimate, paid virtual event. Each participant receives curated study materials, experiences expert facilitation, community and new-found sisterhood.

    The Workshop

    The Workshop is where alumni of Black Girl Saturday School® come to co-create cultural events that celebrate girlhood and womanhood. Think: plays, music & film festivals, art exhibitions and so much more. The Workshop allows Black Girl Saturday School® alumni to spend time substantial time creating, curating, and musing on themes of girlhood brilliance.

    The Voodoo Album Experience

    Was a 3-day immersive exhibition experience held in Baltimore. MD that honored the 25th anniversary of D’Angelo’s 2nd album Voodoo, the era that gave rise to the album, and the sensual power of music. The experience included a curated dinner party, a 17-artist exhibition where artists (re)imagined the music of Voodoo, and a film festival. We endeavored to model what it looks like to “unbox” artists and allow them the space to display their full artistry, and say to them “we see, feel, and understand you.”

The Voodoo Album Experience
